Just Another Manicure Monday

Oh, Monday. Some may dread your arrival, but I always look forward to a fresh start each week. So maybe I ate just a little too much cheesecake over the weekend. That’s okay, because Monday is here to motivate me to get back to my healthy regimen. Last week was a whirlwind of events – I started a new (and fabulous!) job, my dear boyfriend and I celebrated his birthday, and I reunited with my favorite girls for a sunny day spent on a blanket in the park. I’m mildly exhausted, and today was my day to relax and take a much needed time-out. For me, that meant treating myself to an at-home manicure. Painting my nails is one of my favorite things to do, and I couldn’t wait to try out the new Essie I picked up last week. Super Bossa Nova is what I would describe as a lovely fuchsia confection laced with violet glass flake shimmer. It applies like a dream, dries super fast, and really exemplifies what I love about Essie. I have already made a mental list of Essie polishes that I will likely die without – stay tuned!

Going Green

This week has been coasting by, and I find myself surprised that it’s already Friday. My week consisted of attempts to hit the gym as I’m getting over a cold (not the best idea) and curating my closet in anticipation of warmer weather. While sunny spring skies are yet to be seen, I have been assisting my immune system by filling up on loads of healthy foods, namely green juices and shakes. I was a little nervous to try the spinach-as-a-smoothie thing, but I can now say that I am seriously hooked. Not only has this yummy concoction given me tons of energy, a welcome side effect has been the improvement of my skin texture and clarity (more on that later!). I love that I can really play with the ingredients to fit my mood, and the truly endless number of recipes out there ensures that I’ll never get bored. I have been pushing the Green Monster on everyone I know, I swear it’s amazing. If you haven’t tried this yet, do it now!

For this particular smoothie I used this simple recipe:

  1. Put 2 cups of spinach in a blender.
  2. Add 1 banana, broken into smaller pieces.
  3. Throw in a few ice cubes – as many as desired.
  4. Top with 1 cup of soy milk . I also added half a scoop of soy protein powder.
  5. Blend until smooth and enjoy!

Blueberry Crumble

I had been itching to make these Blueberry Crumb Bars for the longest time, but the recent bout of cold weather had me craving heavier sweets. Needless to say, I jumped at my chance when I awoke to bright sunny skies this morning, and – oh! – am I glad I did. The burst-in-your-mouth juiciness of blueberries and the crisp, lemony, goodness of the crust had my mouth doing a major happy dance. It should be known that I have a fondness for any type of crumble, and I’ve been known to sneak nibbles off the top while no one is watching.

Yum!

Making Me Smile

…Spiking my morning coffee with vanilla syrup…

I think it’s so important to appreciate the simple pleasures in life, and finding joy in the little things has never been a problem for me. Even as the rain is pouring I’ve found it easy to bring a little light into my day. Here a few things currently putting a smile on my face:

…Polka dots paired with feminine details…

…This candle makes my room smell super yummy…

…Beading from an unflattering top, now a go-with-anything necklace…

…Currently living on my toes? Essie’s Clambake…

Spring Break

I’ve always had this little dream of jetting off on a whirlwind vacation. I love the idea of leaving at a moment’s notice, bringing a simple carry-on bag packed with the essentials. A few days in a tropical beach paradise would only require the tiniest of bikinis, a few versatile cover ups, and some major heels (and a pair of flip flops, of course!). I’m very into mixing neutrals and brights right now, and these ensembles could take me from soaking up some sun to evening cocktails. Add a few accessories and mix well!

1. Missoni Mare Bahia Crochet Bikini $455
2. Shimmi Tiana Triangle Bikini $180
3. Old Navy Crochet String Bikini $40
4. Calypso Agonda Tunic $150
5. Topshop Assymetric Cover Up $50
6. Diane von Furstenberg Ayden Playsuit $145
7. Aldo Markley Clog $60
8. Topshop Lois Knot Sandal $130
9. Nine West Illy Espadrille $140

Bling It On

…Bring on the Bling from the OPI Burlesque collection…

One thing to know about me: if it’s shiny, sparkly, glittery or in any other way reflective, I will like it. Not just like it, but probably be intensely obsessed with it. I had overlooked this gorgeous shade on several occasions, but on a recent beauty store run I decided to give it a closer inspection. I happily discovered the multicolored brilliance lurking beneath it’s glitzy gold facade, and even as I type I’m completely distracted by the insane twinkle emanating from my nails. This will definitely be making multiple appearances on the holiday party circuit!
